TIFFANIE BARRIERE

Tiffanie Barriere is the bartender’s bartender, an influencer and educator who has earned some of the beverage industry’s highest honors, including the 2023 Bartender of the Year Award from Women of Whiskey and the 2023 Tales of the Cocktail Visionary Award for building equity, inclusivity, and leadership in the drinks community. She also received the Tastemakers of the South Award, the inaugural Toni Tipton-Martin Award from the International Association of Culinary Professionals, and the Dame of the Year Award from the Tales of the Cocktail Foundation. 

A BarSmarts and Bar 5 certified beverage professional, Barriere spent seven years as Beverage Director of One Flew South in the Atlanta International Airport, which was named the “Best Airport Bar in the World” by World’s 50 Best. As a tasting expert, Barriere has served as a judge in several spirits competitions, including the international Ascot Awards with Fred Minnick, the L.A. Spirits Awards, the New Orleans Spirits Competition, the American Craft Spirits Association Awards, and Diageo’s World Class, the world’s largest bartending competition held in cities such as São Paolo, Shanghai, and Halifax.

Known as “The Drinking Coach,” Barriere has shared her knowledge on the demonstration stages of prestigious food and hospitality events such as BevCon, Bar Convent Berlin, Music To Your Mouth, the Atlanta Food & Wine Festival, Charleston Food & Wine Festival, Savannah Food & Wine Festival, Tales of the Cocktail, and the Food & Wine Classic in Aspen, Colorado.

Her work as an African-American cocktail historian has made her a sought-after speaker at venues such as the Southern Foodways Alliance Symposium, the Soul Summit, CiderCon, Fire Flour & Fork, and the James Beard House in New York City. She has collaborated with such notable chefs and culinarians as Todd Richards, Duane Nutter, the late Darryl Evans, Kevin Mitchell, Deborah VanTrece, Jennifer Hill Booker, Suzanne Vizethann, Erika Council, Todd Ginsberg and Asha Gomez. 

Barriere has written for several media outlets and her cocktails have been featured in both print and digital publications such as the Washington Post, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Southern Living, Cook’s Country, Wine Enthusiast, Bitter Southerner, Difford’s Guide, Forbes, Essence, Cherry Bombe, Thrillist, Eater, Vine Pair, Food Republic, Creative Loafing, Garden & Gun, and Liquor.com. In 2021, Barriere appeared on the cover of Imbibe magazine as the featured bartender in for the magazine’s annual “Imbibe 75.” As an author-contributor, Barriere’s innovative cocktail recipes have been published in books such as Modern Classic Cocktails by Robert Simonson, Road Soda by Kara Newman, Women in Spirits by Sammi Katz, the Southern Foodway Alliance Guide to Cocktails by Jerry Slayter, and both Jubilee and Juke Joints, Jazz Clubs & Juice by Toni Tipton-Martin.

Barrier has made several national television appearances, including on the “Today Show with Hoda & Jenna” on NBC, “The Kitchen” on the Food Network, “Drink Masters” and “High on the Hog” on Netflix, and “Three Drinkers” on Amazon Prime, as well as regular spots on local Atlanta news outlets. She has also been a regular guest expert on podcasts and radio shows such National Public Radio, Heritage Radio, the Sporkful, Cocktail Guru, Bitter Southerner, Cherry Bombe, A Bar Above, and Good Beer Hunting.

As a beverage consultant, Barriere has worked with multiple spirits brands and organizations such as Jack Daniel’s, Jameson, Bacardi, Tanqueray, Bombay Sapphire, Campari, the Bermuda Tourism Authority, Pernod Ricard, Diageo, and Brown-Forman. In 2024, she worked with Pepsi-Co to create seasonal cocktails for Super Bowl LVIII held in Las Vegas, Nevada.

A leader in the spirits and beverage industry, Barriere is a member of the Atlanta chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier and the Tales of the Cocktail Philanthropy & Development Board, and is Co-Chair of the Tales of the Cocktail Catalyst Committee, Co-Chair of Atlanta’s A Sip of Paradise Gardens, and Co-Chair of the Tales of the Cocktail Dame Hall of Fame.

The Louisiana-Texas native is a friend and mentor to some of the best bartenders and mixologists in the world and continues to pursue her goals of education, service, and fun with every pour.
